Voracious

 "Voracious"

Frame by frame,

18 frames per second,

1,080 frames per minute.

A blue flame flickering,

Through an opaque lens,

Images whirring on a celluloid snake

Harboring unseeing eyes.

Vantablack in Super-8.

64,800 heartbeats per hour,

Stolen minutes of asystolic perception,

A solitary thought each heartbreak,

18 heartaches every second.

The flicker becomes a droning fuzz,

Fusing into 4 AM test pattern

Reflection of a faceless self.

Ego-Centricular Fibrillation.

The shutter feed stutters eloquently,

Asking for absolution

Through the slot of a speakeasy door.

“ me “ is the secret word,

Containing 18 characters per second,

1,080 syllables per minute,

A million consonants, No vowels,

Zero definitions.

The sonic zoom,

Voracious in its appetite for “me”.

Each endless frame, a clone of the next,

Infinitesimally different

Than the previous,

1,080 times more exhuming,

Than the pathetic corpse a minute prior,

Viewed Perfect in projection.

“Voracious” is constructed with wet formed and stiffened vintage fabric given a finish of airbrushed, transparent acrylics. A vintage movie camera and mannequin hand complete the piece which is mounted on a handmade, folkart wood star made by an unknown artisan.
