“Seeking Solace”

(In Blue Denim)

Well worn Denim, soft and warming,

Faded and shredding where knees and 

elbows caress it’s inner weave.

Resilient, proud and protective,

a battle-scarred frigate I’ve traveled

over dark, cold oceans and sunlit seas.

Blue as the eyes of a lover from Cannes

Its folded seams and orange stitches

bind me to my sanity, tether my urges,

firmly cradle my feebleness and

fondle me to a thoughtful solitude 

like no flannels, linens or serges.

Seek solace in soft Blue Denim,

breathe a soothing fog in it’s indigo haze

Stroke the woven twill, a second skin, 

a cotton cocoon, so cherished, beloved,

a placid pool of azure quietude, 

 to peacefully surrender, again and again.
