Rainmaker

The ‘rainy season” where I live in Las Vegas is usually a 2 to 3 day stretch from January to December. After moving here from a place where rain was at least a weekly event, you begin to look forward to the appearance of those big cumulonimbus clouds that you hope will bring a little relief to the giant blow dryer that Las Vegas is nestled in! The primitive, hand painted flowers that decorate the hand made frame of “Rainmaker” reminded me of the beautiful little desert flowers that dot the Mojave landscape after a season of plentiful rain. The relationship between the earth and the atmosphere is such a fragile one and I felt I had to pay homage to those beautiful white and silver clouds that visit us much too infrequently in the desert. 

“Rainmaker” was fashioned with wet molded leather that was finished with transparent and pearlized airbrushed acrylics. The nicely decorated “trampart” frame was probably made around the turn of the 20th century.
