"The Scream 2024"
This is the third 3D interpretation of Edvard Munch's iconic paintings (he did many versions) that I have done over the years, and this one is my favorite. It is the first one that is not free standing and the first in which I've tried to replicate the feeling of the background with all its vibrant colors.
Most of us recognize the title as "The Scream" but its actual title is "Der Schrei der Nature" or "The Scream of Nature".
The scene he depicted in the painting had a very powerful, almost overwhelming effect on his psyche. Legions of art historians have attempted to uncover the meaning behind the workout Munch simply explains it best. In his diary in an entry headed "Nice 22 January 1892", Munch wrote:
"One evening I was walking along a path, the city was on one side and the fjord below. I felt tired and ill. I stopped and looked out over the fjord – the sun was setting, and the clouds turning blood red. I sensed a scream passing through nature; it seemed to me that I heard the scream."
"The Scream 2024" was created using a vintage paper mache puppet head and antique child size mannequin arms which were swathed in antique burlap. The railing was created with reclaimed wood and the background was hand painted with transparent acrylics.
