“Brazen Beauty”

In the silver drizzle of a dreary December night,

On a lonely street corner bathed in yellow light,

A young working woman, now off the clock,

Her beauty a blessing on this desolate block.

Awaiting the bus that would carry her home,

Looking wary, yet poised, but mostly alone,

Her rigid stance portrayed her as cold and aloof,

Sharp eyes, half closed, in their pudding the proof.

Her chin raised defiantly as if to say,

“I’m badass and brash, best not stand in my way!”

I approach and she turns, with concern, not alarm,

I offer a smile, a glance, some subtle charm.

“Wha chu lookin at man!”, quite hard and uncouth,

But it was all just a sham, a blatant tell of her youth.

Sans the fine shoes, fishnets and fancy silk dress,

She seemed but a lonely child, who appeared in distress.

So I answered her sweetly, with warmth in my eyes,

As her lips softened slightly, she looked up toward the skies,

“I gaze upon a brazen beauty! I won’t cause a fuss ”

and at the very moment I spoke, along came her bus.

I watched as she boarded and settled in her seat,

No doubt she was grateful for the dry and the heat.

She then turned her head towards me to silently say,

“Thank you, you’re sweet!” as the bus drove away.

"Brazen Beauty"  was constructed using an unusual antique doll head factory mold mounted on vintage brass piping. The dress was fashioned from an inverted silver on an early 20th century copper fluted middle eastern vase and the base is an antique mining drill/boring bit. The original patina of each component was maintained and sealed with clear acrylic.
