“Would Picasso Be Pissed?”  #1

I often wondered how the modern masters of any given genre would react to the millions of artists that have copied or reimagined their concepts into the artworks we see today. How many works ascribed as cubist, impressionist, dada, surrealist, etc. etc. would they have blessed with their approval, and how many would have them rolling over in their grave???

I’d like to think that my attempts at emulating cubism would be viewed favorably by Braque, Gris and Cézanne, but it’s just as likely that they would get a good laugh when Picasso addressed the work as “Good artists copy; great artists steal.” leaving my work in a nether-land of being neither acknowledged or dismissed. I can only hope he wouldn’t be so pissed at my creations as to resurrect his famous quote “The people who make art their business are mostly imposters!”  Thankfully, I’ll just never know!

“Would Picasso be Pissed?”  #1 & #2 were created using found objects, mostly antique wood fishing floats cut into random shapes. Multiple pieces of 1920’s chip art decorations that were sourced from an antique Tramp Art box were also used as well as geometric wood game pieces, all applied to a recycled framed canvas. The canvas was given a crackle finish and the frame was finished with automotive “wrinkle’ paint.
