"Deja Vu"

I see shapes atop a dark green mountain,

structures just barely visible.

Indiscernible.

Mysterious, ghostly, shrouded in a haze.

Undefinable.

I’m compelled to climb to confront them,

provoked by an inexplicable energy.

Subliminal.

Their geometry curiously hypnotic.

Unquenchable.

The hike is arduous, exhausting,

the evergreens are towering, almost bestial.

Inescapable.

I’m wholly swallowed by their canopy.

Unimaginable.

Anemic blades of light penetrate,

the mist is their faithful remora.

Inseparable.

No sounds, no odors, no traces of the living.

Uninhabitable.

The ridge top provides clarity,

the shapes are now so familiar.

Recognizable.

An eerie sense of deja vu overwhelms me.

Unexplainable.

This place is known to me, intimately.

My home in another life, another time?

Impossible!

My mind aches for solid explanation.

Unanswerable.

"Deja Vu" was created from reclaimed antique objects including an oak sailmaker's fid, two metal tobacco spikes, two wood pulley wheels mounted on a primitive wood candle holder as the base. The piece was finished with air brushed transparent acrylics.
