At age 15, I bought my first car, a 1955 Chevy Bel Air for $75. I did not have a license to drive but I would occasionally sneak out around the neighborhood and hope that the cops that lived on my block didn't see me. Cars were relatively simple back then and most of us learned how to do most of the maintenance and minor repairs but, if there was something we could not handle, there was always another kid within a few blocks that would help you out. Boomers had grease under their fingernails and oil in their veins!
"Heart of a Boomer" is constructed from the antique motor cover of a vintage Power King drill press topped with two glass domed AC Delco automotive fuel pumps. Wet molded leather was fashioned around the cover and salvaged copper tubing was added to complete the "heart". The sculpture is mounted on an antique tobacco spike and attached to a base made from a repurposed, cast iron, wood burning stove top.
